As mayors of the two Kansas Cities—one in Missouri, one in Kansas—we’d like to help introduce you to Destination Kansas City and its exploration of the many factors that make this region an ideal place to live, work, play and do business.
Nearly 150 years ago, the opening of the transcontinental railroad presaged great things for this community. The infrastructure that was constructed then would help establish this as the center of national commerce.
In the decades since, this region has grown into a bi-state economic powerhouse, boasting a diversified business infrastructure that allows us to sidestep “bubble” economies on the way up—while avoiding the sharp declines, as well. From the quality of our work force, universities and schools to the level of affordability, unrivaled transportation, distribution and logistics assets, unique cultural, entertainment and hospitality options, and world-class health-care services and research capabilities, our progress shows up in every aspect of what makes Kansas City a thriving metropolitan area.
Now, on top of all that, a new kind of infrastructure is about to be put into place. The selection of Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., to be the nation’s first communities to receive Google Fiber’s ultra-high-speed Internet service is of tremendous importance to this region, and the infrastructure of tomorrow is tied to access and technology that will lead to new frontiers.
Together, these two outstanding cities will lead the way into a new age. Our region’s future relies on our ability to recruit the smartest and most innovative people, but this much is clear: We have become the most attractive city on the planet to entrepreneurs.
We invite you to learn more about what makes this metropolitan area so unique, so dynamic, and so attractive as a place to do business.
